Land concessions for development continue in Vientiane

Vientiane Times, March 30, 2016.

The Vientiane Planning and Investment Department reports that it has approved land concession agreements for local and foreign investors from 2010 until the present totaling more than 7.65 trillion kip (almost US$945 million) and the figure is expected to keep increasing.
The department reported recently that it had approved investments of 1,488.33 hectares for 39 development projects in the districts of Xaysettha, Chanthabouly, Sikhottabong, Sisattanak, Xaythany, Hadxaifong, Naxaithong and Sangthong.

Planting campaign to conserve mountain’s abundant forest

Hundreds of people joined in planting trees to conserve forest in Vientiane’s Sangthong district, which covers part of the Phouphanang National Protected Area. District Governor Mr B ounthieng Khounsy led officials from Vientiane’s Department of Agriculture and Forestry, Department of Natural Resources and Environment, local police, military forces, local residents and students in planting around 2,000 native saplings on around two hectares of land on Lanmanh Hill near Samphanna village.

Vietnam and Laos sign gold contract

Viet Nam and Laos signed a gold exploration contract in Vientiane yesterday, Viet Nam News Agency’s correspondent in Laos has reported. The contract was signed by Lao Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Bounthavi Sisouphanthong and representative of Global South Joint Stock company Cu Thanh Tien. The gold exploration will be carried out in an area of 24 square kilometres in Xangthong district, Vientiane city.

On 20 February 2012 the Governor of Sangthong District and the District Land Management Agency overseen by high ranking officials from Vientiane Capital (Chief Cabinet of the Provincial Governor’s Office, Vientiane Department of Industry and Commerce, Vice President of the Lao Women Union) and supported by GDG-SNV organized the official handover of Communal Land Titles to 5 village chiefs (Kum ban pattana number 05) totaling 2,189 hectares, represented by 7 gold framed communal land titles (Bai Ta Din Khok Thong).

In recent landmark developments, Laos issued its first communal forest land titles on an NGO development project site.
