Over 700,000 cubic metres felled illegally, but not as timber

The Minister of Natural Resources and Environment reported that over 700,000 cubic metres of trees are felled illegally every year for charcoal production, construction purposes (supporters) and being used as firewood. Mr Noulinh Sinbandith, who is the above mentioned minister told the ongoing ordinary session of the 7th National Assembly legislation on 14 July that the increased cutting of wood for such purposes severely damaged and deforested the production forestry in the country.

Govt considers revoking 10 mining concessions

The government will consider revoking investment concessions for about 10 mining projects whose investors have failed to abide by relevant laws and agreements they made with the government. Poor performance of the investors was found by a committee in charge of launching an assessment inspection of mining projects across the country in a move to ensure mining investment effectiveness.
